First Post!

Hello, and welcome to my independent study!  I want to research languages--their origin, changes throughout the years, slang, new words, and possibly new topics that will branch from my current interests.  To start off my project, I created a list of questions I want to answer before this project concludes.  Here it is:

• How many languages existed at the beginning of mankind?
• How many languages exist now?
• How do accents develops?
• How great is the influence of languages on other languages?
• Where does slang originate?
• How are new words created?
• Why are certain words considered offensive?
• Why are certain words considered more descriptive then others?

I'll add more as they come to me, but for now I'll start with these!
